Mary Jones Nabel Wins the Lightweight Double at NSRII, World Cup Next for Top US Lightweight Women

BRF and Cambridge Boat Club’s athlete Mary Jones Nabel along with Potomac’s Emily Schmeig won the lightweight women’s double at the second National Selection Regatta in West Windsor, NJ.

After a brief selection in Boston with Riverside’s Hillary Saeger and Christine Cavallo, the two doubles faced off against each other and Jen Sager and Jillian Zieff of Riverside. The final result had Emily and Mary finishing 5 seconds ahead of multi-time national team member Saeger and World 2K Record Holder Cavallo.

Next for both of the top two doubles is the first stop of the World Rowing World Cup in Belgrade, Serbia. While USRowing is funding the winner of NSRII for one world cup stop, the Boston Rowing Federation is proud to extend the same racing opportunity to Hillary and Christine, to continue developing the US Lightweight women with the ultimate goal of capturing a podium at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

All four athletes with continue to train in Europe and compete at the Bled International Regatta, as well as the second World Rowing World Cup in Linz Ottensheim, Austria, which also be the site of 2019 World Rowing Championships.
