Gevvie places earns silver medal at World Cup II, Josh and Andrew finish 6th.

Both BRF Olympic crews competed at the second World Cup in Lucerne this weekend, after winning US Olympic Trials in April.

Gevvie was in 3rd place at the 1500 meter mark before rowing through 2015 World Championship Bronze Medallist Jingli Duan of China, and finishing 2nd, behind Australia’s Kim Brennan(Crow), and ahead of fast closing Olympic Champion Mirka Knapkova Topinkova of the Czech Republic. In addition to the medal, this was the closest margin anyone’s had on 2015 World Champion Crow since the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam. Since the Gevvie will not be competing at the third World Cup in Poznan, the next time she will see this field and 2014 World Champion Emma Twigg will be on the starting line at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Josh and Andrew finished second in their heat to 2013 World Champions Norway and third in their semifinal to 2015 World Champions France, before finishing 6th in the A Final. While finding their finals performance a bit subpar, the crew are excited about the quality of the racing and are looking forward to getting back to training before seeing the same opposition in two month’s time in Rio.
